Send quotes to Miro — Bristlenose docs

Send to Miro is a report action — the steps are the same whether the macOS app shows it as a native panel or your browser shows it as a web panel.

Send to Miro pushes your quotes onto a new Miro board as sticky notes, grouped by section and theme. It's an experimental feature in the report's Export menu.

This is the only export that sends content to a third party — the quotes go to your own Miro account, which makes Miro a processor of that data. A board is easy to reshare, unlike a spreadsheet or a clip you keep, so each sticky is attributed to a participant code and timecode (— P1 · 2:12), never a display name — even after you have named your participants. The quote text itself is sent as written, so a name a participant said aloud within a quote travels with it, the same as in the report. Hidden quotes are not included.

Before you start

A Miro account. A free plan is enough to try this. Miro's free plan caps how many editable boards you can keep (Free plan limits); a paid plan removes the cap.
A team where you can create boards. On a company Miro, some organisations restrict who may create developer tokens — you may need an admin.
Two permissions ("scopes"): boards:read and boards:write. That's all Bristlenose asks for.

Connect with an access token

Connecting needs a Miro access token, which you create once in Miro:

Open your Miro apps page (Profile settings → Your apps).
Click Create new app, name it (for example "Bristlenose export"), and associate it with the team whose boards you'll write to. (Build your first app)
In the app's Permissions, enable boards:read and boards:write. Leave the rest off.
Click Install app and get OAuth token, choose your team, and copy the token. (About access tokens)

Treat the token like a password — it can read and write your boards. Don't paste it into chats or commit it to a repository.

Then open the Send to Miro panel and paste the token:

Click Export in the toolbar (the share button) → Send to Miro… — or use the Quotes menu. Paste the token and Connect.

In your browser

In the report, open Export → Send to Miro…, paste the token, and Connect.

Prefer the terminal? bristlenose configure miro validates the token and stores it in your system keychain — the report then uses it.

Either way Bristlenose checks the token immediately (a harmless read of one board) and tells you if a scope is missing.

Create the board

If you use more than one Miro account (a personal one and a client's, say), check the panel header first: it shows the account and team you're connected to, and names the team the board will be created in — so you don't land a board in the wrong workspace. To switch, Disconnect and paste a token from the other account.

With a token connected, open Send to Miro again (Export menu, as above) and set:

Board name — optional; defaults to the project name.
Colour stickies by — Sentiment (e.g. frustration in red) or Single colour (yellow).
Link quotes to clips — optional. If you've exported clips and put them somewhere shareable, point this at that folder and each sticky links to its clip.

Create board builds it.

Bristlenose makes a new board every time and never alters an existing one. Quotes land under two frames — Sections then Themes — in the same left-to-right order as the report's Quotes page, each section and theme headed by its own sticky and its quotes stacked session-then-time. When it's done you get a count and an Open in Miro link.

If something goes wrong

You see	What it means
Invalid Miro token	The token is wrong, expired, or missing a scope — the message says which. Create a fresh one with `boards:read` + `boards:write`.
Could not validate Miro token	Bristlenose couldn't reach Miro to check it. Check your connection and try again.
Only the three most recent boards are editable	A free developer team caps editable boards at three. Use a paid team, or delete old test boards. (Free plan limits)
Export pauses, then resumes	Large boards can hit Miro's rate limit; Bristlenose backs off and continues automatically. (Rate limits)
Miro export failed	If the board was partly built, the message includes a link to open the half-finished board so it isn't lost.
